I have over 350 video projects in my career. I managed some of those projects with excellent budgets and some with no budget at all. I have been a solo videographer/editor and have managed a few full productions with as many as 60 people on set. All of them have different values. I prefer not to identify some, and the others I think were magic moments.

So what’s my favorite project, and why?
I like problem projects. The one with a piece of gaff tape holding the script together, no storyboard, and talent with 0-4 projects under their belt. The projects that start at 40% under budget then become less funded later. These are the ones that let me know what I can do the best. Walking into chaos and finding the needed communication to gather the concept, cleverly use assets, and formulate the balance of bootleg and professional techniques. I like to take a nearly impossible project and be the rabbit that gets the best result out of the hat.

Completing a perfectly organized project with all the correct pieces only tells you, you are good at easy things. Pulling something decent from what seemed to be a terrible idea or difficult circumstances is how you figure out if you have learned enough in your profession to create magic.

But trust me, well-planned & budgeted is much appreciated.
